World Cup opening ceremonies are being staged across Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles, with Mexico opening on Thursday, June 11 and Canada and the United States following on Friday, June 12. FOX Sports says all three ceremonies are on the FOX family of networks in the United States, with English-language coverage on FOX and FS1, and every ceremony and match streaming on FOX One. Tubi is listed for free simulcasts of the Mexico and USA ceremonies and their opening matches.

The schedule uses separate ceremony and match times. Mexico’s show was the tournament’s first ceremony. Canada and the United States carry the Friday ceremony windows before their own opening matches.

The Three Windows Are Split Across Two Days

FOX calls the launch a first-of-its-kind celebration, with three opening ceremonies across three host nations on two consecutive days. Mexico went first on June 11. Canada and the United States are listed for June 12.

Host ceremony Date U.S. TV start Venue Opening match
Mexico Thursday, June 11, 2026 1:30 p.m. ET Mexico City Stadium, Mexico Mexico vs South Africa
Canada Friday, June 12, 2026 1:30 p.m. ET Toronto Stadium, Canada Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina
United States Friday, June 12, 2026 7:30 p.m. ET Los Angeles Stadium, California USA vs Paraguay

Those are ceremony start times; match kickoffs are listed separately. FOX One’s World Cup page lists Mexico vs South Africa at 3 p.m. ET, Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina at 3:00 p.m. ET, and USA vs Paraguay at 9:00 p.m. ET. The ceremony windows are scheduled before those matches.

At the stadiums, FIFA’s local advice is earlier. The Mexico City show was set for 11:30 local time, Toronto for 13:30 local time and Los Angeles for 16:30 local time. FIFA’s Mexico, Canada and Los Angeles updates all say gates open four hours before kick-off.

The U.S. Viewing Path Has a Free Split

In the United States, FOX Sports names the broadcast, subscription stream and free simulcast routes. TV viewers get FOX and FS1 in English. Streamers get FOX One for the full tournament path. FOX One’s own page says fans can stream all FIFA World Cup games from June 11 to July 19, with live games, pregame coverage, highlights and analysis through all match streaming details.

  • English-language coverage: FOX Sports lists FOX and FS1 for the ceremonies in the United States.
  • Full tournament streaming: FOX One lists all 104 matches, live games, pregame coverage, highlights and analysis.
  • Free simulcasts: FOX Sports lists Tubi for Mexico and USA ceremonies and their accompanying opening matches, and Tubi has a free tournament streaming hub.

FOX One’s product page also lists a 3-day free trial for new subscribers and a $19.99/month plan. The same page says offers are subject to change. If you already get FOX networks through a paid TV provider, the FOX One FAQ says you can sign in with those credentials to access live FOX content.

Mexico Opens With the Official Song

FIFA’s June 4 Mexico update added Shakira and Burna Boy to the Mexico City ceremony to perform Dai Dai, the Official FIFA World Cup 2026™ Song. The same update says the song supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. The broader Mexico City lineup also includes Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná and Tyla.

The Mexico City official song performance page says Shakira and Burna Boy were set to perform the song for the first time at the opening ceremony. The show was scheduled to begin at 11:30 local time. Gates were listed to open four hours prior to kick-off.

FIFA’s Mexico release connects the ceremony to papel picado, describing it as the host-country lens for the shared trophy concept. The listed opening match was Mexico vs South Africa. Mexico went first.

Toronto Builds Around Anthems and Host Talent

Canada’s ceremony is listed for Friday, June 12 at 1:30 p.m. ET on FOX’s U.S. guide and 13:30 local time in FIFA’s Toronto update. The match listing is Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium. Canada follows Mexico in the ceremony order.

The Toronto ceremony and anthem details add a different piece to the artist bill. FIFA lists Alanis Morissette for the Canadian national anthem, Aleksandar Gajić for the Bosnia and Herzegovina anthem and Will Arnett as a FIFA World Cup 2026™ Ambassador.

The performance roster in FIFA’s Canada update also includes Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream and William Prince. The same update tells stadium fans that gates open four hours prior to kick-off. FOX’s U.S. guide is the source for the 1:30 p.m. ET television time.

Los Angeles Takes the Late Window

The United States ceremony is the late U.S. window. FOX lists it for Friday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET, ahead of USA vs Paraguay at 9:00 p.m. ET. FIFA’s Los Angeles update gives the local show time as 16:30 and says gates open four hours prior to kick-off.

FIFA’s Los Angeles anthem and performer update lists Dan + Shay for the United States national anthem and Purahei Soul for Paraguay’s anthem. It also says Jason Sudeikis will take the field as a FIFA World Cup 2026™ Ambassador. The celebration includes appearances from Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema and Tyla.

FIFA uses Los Angeles Stadium in its update. FOX’s guide identifies the venue as SoFi Stadium in Inglewood for the United States opener. For more stadium-side reading around that match, Football Instant has a related piece on the SoFi Stadium labor clock.

FOX’s guide names the U.S. ceremony as a free Tubi simulcast along with Mexico. Canada is covered by the all-ceremonies FOX and FOX One line from that same guide. The broadcast order ends in Los Angeles before the United States meets Paraguay.

The Format Gives Each Host Its Own Stage

FIFA’s ceremony plan is built around separate host-country openings. Its Los Angeles release says three spectacular opening ceremonies unfold across Mexico City, Toronto and Los Angeles. Its Mexico release says the ceremonies are connected by a shared creative thread tied to the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy.

  • 90 minutes: FIFA lists that ceremony window before kick-off for the stadium shows.
  • 104 matches: FIFA says the tournament begins on Thursday, June 11 in Mexico City and culminates on Sunday, July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium.
  • 16 Host Cities: FIFA pairs that number with the 104-match tournament format.
  • 48 national teams: FOX One lists that field size on its World Cup streaming page.

The listings put ceremony times before match times. The full World Cup streaming page carries the game list by group, while FOX Sports’ ceremony guide carries the opening-show times. Fans using public viewing spaces can pair those listings with local rules; our related guide to Kansas City fan festival capacity covers one host-city screen site.

Start with the ceremony time, then check whether your route is FOX, FS1, FOX One or Tubi. Mexico was listed for Thursday. Canada and the United States are listed for Friday.

I'm Cristian Delgado, and I founded Football Instant, though the obsession started long before the site ever did. I first laced up at 12 on the public pitches of East Los Angeles, where Southern California's deep Latino soccer culture turned a kid's pickup game into something closer to a calling. These days I hold a USSF B coaching license and run a youth club side here in the LA area, and that work is exactly what sharpens my eye, because reading pressing triggers, spacing, and the run of a match is the same job whether I'm standing on the touchline or breaking down a game for you. My takes come from stadiums, not just a couch. I've traveled to watch football across England, Spain, and Latin America, from Premier League nights to Clásicos to Champions League ties, chasing the same atmosphere that hooked me as a boy glued to Cristiano Ronaldo. Growing up bilingual, I read the Spanish football press as closely as the English one, so I catch stories and context a lot of sites miss. And yes, I'm the proud dad of two boys I named Ronaldo and Messi. That mix is the lens I bring to every score, story, and transfer Football Instant breaks: a supporter's heart paired with a coach's eye.
